Art, music and a good cause — three things you are sure to find at ARTivism, an art exhibition hosted by the All-Armenian Students’ Association (All-ASA) taking place Friday, March 8 at Les Noces Du Figaro in Downtown Los Angeles.
“ARTivism strives to promote local artists while raising money for ONEArmenia, a non-profit organization in Armenia,” said Ani Tatintsyan, chairperson of All-ASA’s Homeland Welfare Committee. The committee chose to dedicate the year to working with ONEArmenia.
“They raise funds for humanitarian work in Armenia in a way that is both transparent and innovative by using social media and crowdsourcing,” she added.
According to ONEArmenia’s mission statement, the organization was created as a response to the embarrassing trend of corruption and broken promises by the non-profit sector in Armenia. The organization tracks their progress closely, following a project from start to finish on their website.
Currently ONEArmenia is working on a shelter for victims of domestic violence, after recent campaigns to bring clean water to Karotan and build a kindergarten in Moshatagh.
“We really want to use ARTivism as an opportunity to turn art into an action that creates positive change in a community,” Tatintsyan said.
ARTivism begins at 8:00pm and will last through midnight. A $10 donation at the door is encouraged for all participants. A full bar will be available for anyone over the age of 21.
