The Armenian Student Association was established in order to promote Armenian culture among students at UC San Diego. We strive to create a close-knit community, where students can actively embrace their heritage. We hope to create a network of social and academic support, where students can guide one another to success. The ASA has been an integral part of the greater campus community, establishing relations with various cultural and social organizations. Furthermore, the ASA’s philanthropic efforts have continually benefited the San Diego community. The Armenian Student Association encourages active participation by all students in order to foster friendships that will carry beyond their academic years.
Executive Board
Loosi Azarian
President
Majors: History and International Studies with a primary track in Political Science
College: Marshall
About Loosi: In a nutshell… I’m a loud and opinionated thrill seeker who likes to bite literally and metaphorically. Dubbed a social butterfly, I like to mingle with everyone and anyone. As a result, I feel I can relate to everyone on some level. Be yourself, and I guarantee we will get along. I love to eat… debate and philosophize… and laugh. Chat with me… I’m a good listener and tend to give decent advice.
Henrietta Movsessian
Vice President
Major: Political Science, Minor: Law and Society
College: Marshall
About Henrietta: Hi, I’m Henrietta, those close to me call me Hen. I am majoring in Political Science with a minor in Law & Society. I am very interested in the way our government is run and hope to one day become a politician. I actually enjoy having a full, busy schedule at all times… as weird as that may sound. I can usually be found checking my e-mail or reading articles on the CNN app on my phone. In addition to being a part of ASA, I am the President of Alpha Gamma Alpha and a part of my college’s Student Council. I tend to name everything I own, from cars to stuffed animals to jewelry. I absolutely love San Diego and I am thinking of staying here in the future.
Hovo Keseyan
Secretary
Major: Mechanical Engineering
College: Marshall
About Hovo: I love to make the most out of college life whether it involves engineering, sports, partying, concerts, philanthropy, or student organizations. I like to keep things diverse so that they are always interesting – this can be seen not only in my hobbies and selection of friends, but also in my taste in music: Harout Pamboukjian, Pink Floyd, Tiesto, System of a Down, Tupac, Greek and orchestra music among many others accompany relatively equal place in my heart (although Harout brings out the best dancer in me). I believe that although there is a time for work and a time for fun, the best way to get work done is to make your work fun. I definitely enjoy being an exec member of ASA, president of Alpha Epsilon Omega, co-founder of Siblings Without Borders, and a mechanical engineering student. We are not just here in college to disappear from the face of the Earth for a few years, get our degrees and magically start living again – we are all students still living our lives, so if there is a party around don’t forget to invite me

Treasurer
Majors: Economics & International Studies- Anthropology and Middle Eastern Studies
College: Eleanor Roosevelt
Avo Kambourian
Social Chair
Major: Communication
College: Sixth
About Avo: Three words to describe me- photo, music, and film. Those aren’t personality traits but my main sources of joy in this world. I love many different types of music and art, but stories are what drive me. My aspirations are to become the best storyteller I can possibly be, whether it’s through photography, film, or writing, storytelling is what drives both my passions and my goals.
Some interesting facts about me: I’ve lived in Armenia for 4 months, I’m fascinated by culture, and despite the fact that I love all types of ethnic food I’ve never had Indian food.
I consider myself a very approachable person, whether you’re an incoming freshman, transfer students, or a current student whose lost or bored out of your mind, talk to others, meet people with similar interests, that’s what ASA is all about.
Elvira Derhovsepian
Philanthropy Chair
Major: Human Development
College: Sixth
About Elvira: Nicknamed Virus, short for Elvirus. I have a big interest in the study and research of the eye, so I hope to work somewhere in that field for a career. Other than that, my heart has and always will have a big spot for the arts. I write for The Armenian Chronicles and hope to get involved in other areas of journalism in the future, even for a hobby. A couple of fun life goals: eat escargot in France, go backpacking/hiking at many worldwide landmarks and learn to fluently speak Spanish, Swedish and Russian. Oh and I say “thug life” a lot, get used to it!
Vahe Lepedjian
Public Relations
Major: Pharmacological Chemistry
College: John Muir
About Vahe: Music plays a huge role in my life- whether it be listening to it, playing piano, or attending concerts/music festivals. Radiohead is my favorite band but I also like many other folk/indie artists. I’m also big on Armenian poetry, dance and music. I love nature and try to go camping as often as I can. My main goal in life is to travel around the world and get exposed to as many different cultures as possible. I know nothing about pop culture so expect a blank stare if you ever bring it up haha.
Nare Kupelian
All ASA Repesentative
Major: Political Science
College: Eleanor Roosevelt
About Nare: I am often compared to a Snapple fact generator because I tend to spew out random facts about pretty much everything. My fascination with history and human rights led me to my choice in a Political Science and History double major with a minor in Human Rights. I love chi kyufteh, lebni, Harout Pamboukjian and moustaches and around 2:00am every night, you can find me either sending out ASA e-mails or eating carne asada fries or both simultaneously.
Vanuhi Karapetian
Historian
Majors: Political Science and History
College: Eleanor Roosevelt
About Vanuhi: I can be spotted in a crowd very easily: look for the girl jumping around with the overly bouncy ball of curly hair. I am very energetic, to say the least. I am very passionate about justice and the legal system; thus, I am a joint political science and history major. I became very interested in history after entering UCSD and going through the MMW series at Eleanor Roosevelt College. Armenian history and culture is especially fascinating to me. Besides academics, I also love the beach, nature, hiking, reading, cleaning, etc.
